Klose Goes Four-for-Four, Lobos Win on the Road at Denver City

Senior right fielder Blake Klose went four-for-four with three RBI on Tuesday as the Levelland Lobos took a eight-to-six win at Denver City on Tuesday. The win moves the Lobos to 12-and-seven overall with two games left before district baseball opens.

Levelland got on the board in the top of the first as Rusty Johnson reached on a two out error and Blake Klose would cash it in on an RBI double to left-center. Klose would score on a second Mustang error and Levelland led two-to-nothing after a half inning.

Denver City would bounce right back as Gavin Garcia opened the home half with a double and Erik Estrada promptly drove him in on a base hit. Miles Riley would reach on a error and Jonathan Rodrigues rang the bell with a two RBI single and Denver City took a three-to-two lead after one inning.

Levelland would tie it at three in the second on Rance Massey single and score on a Joel Pena double and it would be the last time the Lobo lead was threatened.

Blake Klose would single with one out in the third and scored on a Alex Cervantez hit putting Levelland in front four-to-two before Denver City scored on three single in the bottom of the third cutting the Lobo lead to five-to-four through three innings.

Levelland grew the lead in the fourth when Joel Pena singled and scored on a Rusty Johnson double. Another run would score as Blake Klose collected his third hit and second RBI of the day. Levelland grew the lead to seven-to-four after four.

Denver City would get one back in the fifth on a Daniel Ceniceros single and a Lobo error leaving the score Levelland 7, Denver City 5 after five innings.

That would be as close as it would get as Levelland got another run int he sixth on third Pena single and another RBI single from Blake Klose. They would add another run in the seventh on a couple of Denver City errors.

Denver City would get their final run in the seventh on a Erik Estrada double attached to another Lobo error but it was too little too late as Levelland went on for the eight-to-six win and moved their record to 12-and-seven overall.

Wyatt Baccus took the start but didn’t figure into the decision. He would go three innings allowing four runs with three earned on six hits, two walks, a hit batter and four strikeouts. Jerry Haile carded the win in four innings pitched. He allowed two runs with none earned on two hits, and three strikeouts.

Miles Riley took the loss working six innings and allowing seven runs with six earned. Those came on 12 hits, one walk, an intentional walk and eight strikeouts. Samrey Garcia closed in one inning work and gave up an unearned run in the seventh.

The Levelland Lobos are 12-and-seven on the year and are off the rest of the week for spring break.

They return to the field on Tuesday March 21st to host Tulia and stay home for Saturday March 25th to host Portales.

Levelland opens district play on Tuesday March 28th host San Angelo Lakeview.
