Roughnecks Ride Early Lead to 2A Bi-District Championship

February 22, 2021

The Sundown Roughnecks got a solid start on Friday night and road a 22-to-13 halftime lead to a 43-to-37 win over the Tahoka Bullodgs for a 2A Region One Bi-District Championship.

Carson Boggs would pour in nine in the front eight minutes and while Tahoka got six from Branyn Fuellen, Sundown took a 15-to-ten lead after the front eight minutes.

The lead grew thanks to the Sundown defense.

While the Roughnecks netted just three field goals in the second quarter, the Roughnecks held the Bulldogs to just one field goal and one free throw taking a 22-to-13 lead into the half.

They would need every bit of it as Tahoka got six more from Fuellen and field goals from Nate Castillo, Cason Resendez and Soul Moore to assemble a 13-to-eight run through the third cutting the lead to Sundown 30, Tahoka 26.

That would be as close as it would get.

Carson Boggs hit for six in the fourth while Johnny Acevedo added five propelling the Roughnecks to 13-to-11 run through the fourth and the 43-to-37 win.

Carson Boggs led all scorers with 19 while Johnny Acevado scored nine and Cody Gaona added seven. Carson Holson tossed in four and David DeLaCerda and Alex Bocanegra scored two each.

Tahoka got 12 from Branyn Fuellen and ten from Cason Rsendez in the loss.

The Roughnecks improve to 13-and-six overall and advance to the 2A Region One Area Championships slated for Tuesday February 23rd starting at 6:30pm at Ira High School.
