White Goes Wild, Lobo Back Half Rally Falls Just Short at #9 Shallowater

Early in the third quarter on Friday night the Levelland Lobos found themselves down 24 points to the #9 Shallowater Mustangs, but Levelland quarterback Bryant White would connect on on four touchdown passes in under 20 minutes just to see the Lobos fall to the Mustangs 52-to-46 in overtime. The loss slips the Lobos to one-and-two on the year.

Shallowater was in control early as the Mustangs cashed in a 32 yard Kaleb Cox touchdown run followed by a seven yard touchdown run from Riley Pinkerton and built a 16-to-nothing lead early.

Levelland answered as senior running back Isaiah Salazar went to the house from 14 yards out and again from 42 yards out to cut the Shallowater lead to Mustangs 16, Lobos 14 in the second quarter.

Shallowater responded with two more touchdown runs as Cox struck 11 yards out and 38 yards out and by halftime the Mustangs were in front 30-to-14.

The Mustangs looked like they would pull away early in the third as Bax Townsend took a 22 yard touchdown carry stretching the lead to Shallowater 38, Levelland 14 early in the third.

Then, here came Bryant White and the Lobos.

White would hit Caleb Salazar on an 18 yard touchdown run and with an Isaiah Salazar two point conversion Levelland cut the lead to Shallowater 38, Levelland 22.

On the next series, White flipped an dump off pass to Isaiah Salazar who weaved his way 57 yards through the traffic and into the end zone. Levelland cashed in yet another two point conversion cutting the lead to 38-to-30 Shallowater.

One series later the senior found Joel Pena from nine yards out and with a Caleb Salazar two point conversion catch, the Lobos had posted 24 unanswered points to tie the game at 38 all.

Shallowater answered on a ten yard Bax Townsend run and with another two point conversion, Shallowater led 46-to-38 with just outside of two minutes to play.

Didn’t matter to the Lobos. They would march 60 yards in under two minutes as Bryant White connected for his fourth touchdown pass of the half. The Isaiah Salazar six yard touchdown catch coupled with a Caleb Salazar two point conversion catch retied the game at 46 all and the overtime was on.

Levelland lost the ball on downs to start the overtime while the Mustangs used a big Lobo penalty to set up a 12 yard Bax Townsend touchdown run and Levelland fell to the #9 Mustangs 52-to-46 in overtime.

It was a shoot out for sure as Levelland put up 409 yards offense with 321 through the air and 88 on the ground.

Senior quarterback Bryant White had a break out night hooking up on 23-of-35 for 314 yards and four touchdown passes.

All hands were on deck for the Lobos as Caleb Salazar caught eight passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Salazar added six catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns, Joel Pena pulled in six catches for 63 yards and a touchdown while Jason Ramirez added five catches for 83 yards.

Levelland rushed for 88 yards as Isaiah Salazar toted the rock 13 times for 63 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Shallowater leaned on the run game all night as 493 yards with 462 on the ground.

Quarterback Bax Townsend rumbled for 21 carries, 170 yards and three touchdowns while Caleb Cox added 13 carries for 154 yards and three touchdowns and Raleigh Pinkerton added 18 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown.

The loss moves Levelland to one-and-two on the season and the road does’nt get easier as the Lobos head to Dumas on Friday night to take on the three-and-oh Demons.
