Sundown Follows Suit on In-Person Athletes

July 30, 2020

Sundown2Levelland, Frenship, Lubbock Cooper and others are requiring students to be in classes in person in order to participate in extracurricular activities and now Sundown joins the growing group.

Sundown ISD released their back to school plans on Wednesday and have followed along the same lines as far as requiring students to take the “in-person” educational option if they plan to participate in several activities.

According to the plan from Sundown ISD:

Although UIL guidance allows students to participate in extracurricular activities in a remote format through SISD Board resolution, students who choose to participate in athletics, extracurricular activities, student activity groups and specific CTE courses must choose the in-person option. These courses include:

● All UIL activities
○ Athletics (Including Cheerleading & Band)
○ Academics
○ Fine Arts (Including Art and Theater)

CTE Courses Requiring On-Campus Attendance:
● Welding
● Culinary Arts
● Woodshop
● Ag Mechanics
● Other CTE classes may be included before the school year begins.

The UIL has announced 1A through 4A schools can start athletics on schedule with volleyball and football practices allow to start August 3rd.  Volleyball matches can open August 10th with tennis and cross country opening on August 17th and football opening August 27th.
