Three Turnovers Hurt Lobos in 26-20 Lost at Shallowater; Lobos Drop to One-and-One

September 9, 2019

LoboFootball2019The Levelland Lobos gave up three turnovers on Friday night and those miscues lead to a 28-to-20 loss Friday night at Shallowater and dropped the Lobos to one-and-one for 2019.

Levelland started strong on a 71 yard drive to open the contest.  Seven plays led to a Isaiah Salazar two-yard touchdown run and with a Justus Durham PAT the Lobos led seven-to-nothing early.

Shallowater would answer.

61 yards on 12 plays would go the Mustangs as Josh Easley rang the bell from five yards out.  Shallowater would fail on PAT and Levelland led seven-to-six.

That score would hold through the first quarter before the Lobos would the end zone again in the second.

Assisted by a couple of Shallowater penalties, the Lobos would cover 41 yards on five plays and and Isaiah Salazar would strike for a second two-yard touchdown run and Levelland took a 14-to-six lead following a failed PAT.

Shallowater again answered.

The Mustangs assembled a 54 yard drive over eight plays and again they would go to Josh Easley.  He would rumble in from two yards out and coupled it with a rushing PAT that tied the score at 14-all late in the second.

Levelland would drive late in the quarter but the drive would die as Skyler Davis bobbled a Bryant White pass near the Shallowater 30.  It would turn into a Guthrie Tongate interception and the drive died.

The Levelland defense would hold through the final Shallowater drive of the half the contest went to the locker room at 14-all.

After the first drive of the second half would die on downs for the Mustangs, the Lobos would go four-and-out.

Shallowater would find points on the next drive.

Dylan Kelly would hook up with Maverick Bryan from 15 yards out and following a missed extra point, the lead went to Shallowater at 20-to-14.

The Lobos would struggle from there giving up a third quarter fumble and muffing a punt in the fourth.

Shallowater would get an insurance score in the fourth when Zeb Price broke loose on a 44 yard touchdown run and add the two-point conversion to build the lead to Shallowater 28, Levelland 14.

They would need that score as Levelland assembled a 65 yard four play drive that was capped off on a Dylan Bordayo 11 yard touchdown run.  The PAT failed and Shallowater rode out the clock for a 28-to-20 win.

Levelland out gained Shallowater offensively as the Lobos put up 289 yards while the Mustangs netted 231 total yards.

Bryant White was 16-of-22 through the air for 151 yards with a fumble and a interception.  Dylan Bordayo was two-of-three for 41 yards.

Jason Ramirez caught five balls for 35 yards while Hunter Littlefield hauled in four catches for 37 yards.  Jacob Ramirez, Isaiah Salazar and Justus Durham all took three catches each while Ramirez stacked up 51 yards, with Salazar totaling 36 and Durham for 33.

Isaiah Salazar led the rushing attack with 19 carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns while Dylan Bordayo added three carries for 22 and a score.  Bryant White carried five times for 14 yards and Skyler Davis added four carries for nine yards in the loss.

Shallowater leaned on running back Josh Easley as he rushed for 114 yards and two scores on 25 carries.  Zeb Price carried four times for 48 yards while Dylan Kelly went 12-for-19 through the air for 82 yards and a touchdown.

The loss moves the Levelland Lobos to one-and-one for 2019 as Levelland plans a road trip to Andrews on Friday.

Andrews is also one-and-one on the season with loss to Lubbock Cooper and a win over Monahans.
