Steve Biera Steps Down as Shallowater Baseball Coach

July 12, 2018

ShallowaterLogoSHALLOWATER, TX (KCBD) –  After eight years, Steve Biera made a tough decision to step down as the baseball coach at Shallowater to spend more time with his family and his daughter’s athletic events.

Shallowater went 30-4 this past season. In his time with the Mustangs, Biera went 169-70 and won six District Titles. Shallowater went to State in 2016, but Coach Biera says its time to focus on his fast growing children.

“I’ve been chasing my dream for 22 years now. Every move I’ve made has been for myself.  It’s kinda been selfish. Everything I’ve done is for me. My girls have just been along for the ride. Now I get a chance to be part of their stuff and see them grow a bit. It’s a short window that I don’t want to miss out on.”

Biera told the team this morning about his decision and it wasn’t easy.

“It may be one of the toughest conversations that I’ve ever had to have. When you’ve been here 8 years and you have kids that have bought in your program and done it the right way, it’s tough. It’s never easy to make that decision. It took me a long time to make it to make sure it’s the right thing. I think I’ll miss it at some point.

Shallowater Superintendent Kenny Border says he will open the job.  Someone will inherit a team that has won 20 District games in a row, going 10-0 the past two seasons.
