South Plains Rodeo Set for 2018 College National Finals Rodeo June 10 Through June 16

SPCCNFRLEVELLAND — After compiling the most successful season in program history, the South Plains College women’s rodeo team will travel to Casper, Wyoming June 10-16 to compete against the nation’s best at the 2018 College National Finals Rodeo.

Led by head coach Kerry Doster, who was named the 2018 Western Junior College Athletic Conference Women’s Head Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Texans to their third consecutive Western Junior College Athletic Conference crown, the Lady Texans will kick things off on June 10 at 4 p.m. MDT when Lariat Larner takes to the arena in the breakaway roping event.

Larner, a sophomore First Team All-Conference selection from Stephenville will also compete in goat tying for the Lady Texans. Larner finished sixth overall in the Southwest Region in breakaway roping with 195 points and 11th in goat tying with 175 points. Larner will make her first of three runs in goat tying at 7 a.m. MDT on June 11.

Alex Odle and Jenna Dallyn will also be competing for South Plains in barrel racing and goat tying. Dallyn, a sophomore from Nanton Toliro, Canada was named a First Team All-Conference Selection for the Lady Texans after placing second overall in the Southwest Region in goat tying with 655 points. Dallyn will make her first of three runs in goat tying on June 11 at 7 a.m. MDT.

Odle will join Larner and Dallyn in the 7 a.m. slack on June 11, competing in the barrel racing event for the Lady Texans. Odle, a sophomore standout from Brush, Colorado, helped the Lady Texans capture the conference crown after placing seventh overall in the Southwest Region in barrel racing with 330 points.

As quite possibly the most decorated athlete in the history of the South Plains College men’s rodeo program, sophomore cowboy Chet Boren will make his final stand for the Texans as he will compete in both steer wrestling and tiedown roping for the orange and blue.

Boren, a sophomore from Vernal, Utah will make his second consecutive appearance at the College National Finals Rodeo after winning the region in steer wrestling and finishing second in the men’s all-around standings. Boren, who also finished 12th in tiedown roping, was named a First Team All-Conference Selection in both steer wrestling and tiedown roping. Boren will make his first of three runs in tiedown roping and steer wrestling in the Monday morning slack which gets underway at 7 a.m. MDT on June 11 with barrel racing.
