KaylaKoerner.pngA name familiar to volleyball fans across the area is headed to Levelland as former Shallowater Filly player and All Saints Assistant Coach Kayla Koerner has been named as the new volleyball coach for Levelland’s Loboettes.

Koerner, a 2011 graduate from Shallowater, spent two seasons in the college ranks at Odessa as a Lady Wrangler in the inaugural seasons under then Head Coach Alana Rowland.

Following two years at Odessa College, she transferred to Texas Tech in the fall of 2013 to complete her college education before spending the last two seasons as the Junior Varsity Coach and Assitant Varsity Coach at All Saints Episcopal School in Lubbock. In that time, All Saints captured the TAPPS 2A State Championship.

“She is a hard worker, very organized, works well with kids and is very good with parents,” said Shallowater Volleyball Coach and Koerner’s high school coach Amy Mangum. “She has been helping us with summer club volleyball and is a very good young coach. Levelland is lucky to get her and I am excitied for her opportunity as a head coach.”

Koerner comes to Levelland after the retirement of Varisty Coach Shelly Kay and the resignation of Junior Varsity Coach Laurie Smith.

Koerner is the fifth head coach to skipper the Levelland Loboettes since 2010 after a five year stint by now Lubbock Cooper Head Coach Karli Morrison and one year with Coach Shelly Kay.

Levelland ISD Athletic Director Coach Curtis Lowery told KLVT Sports that Coach Rick Musemeche will stay on a the Loboette Freshman Volleyball Coach and the search for a Junior Varsity Coach is underway.

Kayla is the daughter of Pam and Gary Koerner of Shallowater and has yet to be officially assigned her educational roll at Levelland High School.

Congratulations to Coach Koerner and we look forward to a great season of Loboette Volleyball in 2018.
