The Levelland Loboettes closed a very good season under first year head coach Rick Musemeche on Saturday as the Loboettes dropped the 2018 4A Region One Quarterfinals to the Fort Stockton Prowlers two-and-oh to close the season at 23-16-and-1

Game One: Fort Stockton 7, Levelland 6
Fort Stockton broke a five-to-five tie with a two run seventh on Friday night and take a seven-to-six win over the Levelland Loboettes and lead the best of three 4A Regional Quarterfinals series one game to none.

It was scoreless through the front three before the Prowlers got two runs on the board in the top of the fourth on a Mary Villarreal double, a triple from Desiree Blanco and a Levelland error. To the bottom of the fourth Fort Stockton led two-to-nothing.

That lead didn’t last.

Miranda Villegas reached on a one out error in the bottom of the fourth and the Loboettes got going. Amber Kelly would run for Villegas and Val Maravilla would promptly wrap a double to set Levelland with runners at second and third with just one out. Skylar Alvarez would load the bases with a walk and Kelly would score on a RBI hit-by-pitch from Mia Rendon. Ahsley Lopez would clear the bases with a three RBI double and Levelland was in front four-to-two to the top of the fifth.

That lead didn’t last either and Fort Stockton answered with two hits, two walks and a second Levelland error to get three on the board and lead the contest five-to-four into the sixth.

Levelland retied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a single from Mia Rendon, a double from Gaezjia Holland and a fourth RBI from Ashley Lopez.

It sent the game to the seventh at Fort Stockton 5, Levelland 5.

Fort Stockton retook the lead in the seventh on singles from Desiree Blanco, Rebecca Rodriguez, Ashley Ramirez, Raquelle Bernal and Mariah Bueno leaving Levelland down seven-to-five to the bottom of the seventh.

Levelland would only get one back.

Chloe Dunn, Miranda Villegas and Val Maravilla would all walk to start the inning bases loaded and nobody out but the inning ended with less promise than it started. Dunn would score on a scarifice frly from Skylar Alvarez but a ground ball fielder’s choice from Mia Rendon while moving Amber Kelly, running for Miranda Villegas, it would wipe away Val Marvilla at third leaving runners in the corners with two out. Gaezjia Holland would follow with a fly out to deep center and the game ended with Levelland on the short end of a seven-to-six loss.

Fort Stockton got seven runs on 14 hits with three errors while Levelland got six runs on five and four errors.

Heliana Bueno took the start for Fort Stockton but didn’t figure into the decision. She went five complete allowing four unearned runs on two hits with two walks and one strikeout. Desiree Blanco took the win despite only one rough inning. She allowed two runs on three hits with two walks. Mariah Bueno took the save in an inning of shutout relief.

Christen Covarrubias took the loss working seven innings while allowing seven runs with just four earned on 14 hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

The win for Fort Stockton gave the Lady Prowlers a one-to-nothing lead in the best of three series going into Saturday.

Game Two: Fort Stockton 5, Levelland 2
Fort Stockton got five runs in the first to open game two and Levelland never recovered.

Three walks, three singles and a double led to a five run first for Fort Stockton and Levelland spent the rest of the day playing catch up or at least trying.

Levelland got two on in the second and came away empty but finally broke through in the fourth.

Ashley Lopez singled followed by a single from Val Maravilla. Lopez would score on Fort Stockton throwing error and Mia Rendon drove in Maravilla to cut the lead to Fort Stockton 5, Levelland 2 to the bottom of the fourth.

That would be that.

Miriah Bueno would keep the Loboettes off the board and Christen Covarrubias kept Fort Stockton off the board and the game would close Fort Stockton 5, Levelland 2 bringing the Loboettes season to an end.

Fort Stockton got five runs on seven hits with two errors and four left. Levelland scored two runs on four hits with two errors and five left.

Mariah Bueno took the win working all seven innings and allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Mia Corrales took the start and the loss but struggled allowing two runs on three walks without recording an out. Kriston Montgomery would come on and only throw five pitches as she was hit by a line drive by the second batter she faced. Officially she would not record an out and surrender two runs on two hits. Christen Covarrubias would be credited for all six innings worked allowing one run on five hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

While the Loboettes dropped the series two-and-oh the Loboettes managed one round further in the 2018 than 2017 and put up a runner-up district finish, along with Bi-District and Area championships in the first year of the Rick Musemeche regime.

Levelland will say goodbye to seniors Gabby Fraire, Mia Rendon, Skylar Alvarez, Valarie Maravilla, Christen Covarrubias, Samantha Chavarria, Ashley Lopez, Adrianna Salinas, and Annisa Serrato.

Congratulations to Coach Musemeche and the Loboettes on a great season.
