Late Rally Leads Lubbock Estacado by Levelland, Lobos to Four-and-Three in District

loboloyaltyThe Levelland Lobos led three-to-one after five Friday night but a three run Lubbock Estacado sixth pushed the Matadors by the Lobos 5-to-3 sending Levelland to four-and-three overall in district play.

Levelland scored in the first on a double from Angel Pena and a RBI single from Tanner Marrow and followed with another run in the third on a single from Zack Estrada who would score later in the frame on a wild pitch.

The Lobos scored a third run in the third when Jorge Mendiaz singled and was lifted for a pinch runner in Jerrson Hernandez. After and Estacado error, Hernandez would score on a wild pitch putting the Lobos in front three-to-one after five.

The Matadors made up the difference in the sixth.

Zach Rodriguez would single and advance to third on back-to-back ground outs by the Matadors. Runner at third and two out, Donte Hernandez would drive in Rodriguez on a Rbi single to left and Levelland led three-to-two. Hernandez would steal second before Alec Banda would single setting the Matadors with runners in the corners and two out. Hernandez would score and Bo Sims, running for Banda, would go to second on a passed ball tying the game at three all. Sims would move to third on a single from Bryson Howard and score on a wild pitch putting Lubbock Estacado in front four-to-three after six.

The Lobos would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth with one out but came away empty handed leaving Estacado in front four-to-three after six.

Johnny Gomez would hit a solo homerun to left to start the seventh and that would be the final run of the ball game as Levelland got a couple of baserunners in the bottom of the seventh but were turned away and Lubbock Estacado went on for the five-to-three win.

Lubbock Estacado got five runs on ten hits with three errors and left eight while Levelland scored three runs on five hits with one error and eight left.

Johnny Gomez pitched a seven inning win allowing three runs on five hits with one walk, two hit batters and eight strikeouts.

Jorge Mendiaz took the loss working all seven and allowing five runs with four earned on 10 hits, one walk, a hit batter and seven strikeouts.

Lubbock Estacado improves to five-and-two on the year and have won five in a row after starting district at oh-and-two
