Loboettes Survive Ten Inning Battle with Brownfield, Levelland Improves to Five-and-Two in District Play

April 11, 2018

loboloyaltyThe Levelland Loboettes trekked to Brownfield on Tuesday night and survived to a ten inning battle for a 6-to-1 win over the Lady Cubs to improve their mark to five-and-two in district and remain in second place in the field.

The Brownfield Lady Cubs got on the board first as Alyvia Guerra rapped a one out double and following a walk to Sabrina Garza, Guerra would score on a Levelland throwing error and Brownfield led one-to-nothing after one.

Levelland answered back in the second on a lead off double from Mica Contreras followed by an RBI single from Christen Covarrubias and after two, the game was tied at one-to-one.

And fast forward. Well sort of.

Levelland would get base runners in the third, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth.

Brownfield got one on in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the sixth, loaded the bases twice in the seventh, and added a runner in the ninth.

Time and time again, Christen Cobarrubias for Levelland and Savannah Mendez pitched out of trouble and time and time again both teams left runners standing on base.

That lasted through the ninth before the Loboettes broke through.

A single from Val Maravilla followed by a Amber Kelly walk set the Loboettes up with two on and nobody out. Mia Rendon would then reached on a defensive interference call and the bases were loaded with nobody out. After a Skylar Alvarez pop up, Ashley Lopez would ring the bell on a sac fly to center scoring Maravilla from third and Levelland was in front two-to-one with two on and two out. That is all Levelland would need but they would add insurance on a RBI single from Mica Contreras and a two RBI single from Chloe Dunn.

All told, Levelland got five in the tenth and that would do it.

That would be enough. Despite Brownfield getting a lead off base runner on a Levelland throwing error, the Loboettes would retire the next three and win the contest 6-to-1 in ten innings.

Levelland would get six runs on ten hits with seven errors and six left. Brownfield scored one run on four hits with three errors and 14 left.

Christen Covarrubias took the win working all ten on 125 pitches. She would allow one run unearned on four hits, six walks, two intentional walks and five strikeouts.

Savannah Mendez took the loss in ten innings pitched allowing six runs with five earned. Those came on ten hits, two walks, one intentional walk and three strikeouts.

Brownfield slides to four-and-three in district but remains in the thick of the playoff hunt as they lead fourth place Lamesa by two games with three to play. Brownfield has trips to Seminole and Lubbock Estacado before closing at home with Denver City.
