Lobos Offense Gets Hot, Betancourt Cruises, Lobos Top Tribe 11-to-1

The Levelland Lobos went to Seminole on Friday night behind five scoreless innings from Sophomore Zak Betancourt and a red hot Lobo offense, Levelland topped the tribe 11-to-1 to move to three-and-two in district play.

Levelland got started quickly as two out doubles from Noah Ochoa and Tanner Marrow followed by a two run homerun from Logan Anthony had Levelland up three-to-nothing after a half inning.

Levelland got another run in the second when Jorge Mendiaz was hit by a pitch and scored on a RBI single from Angel Pena putting Levelland up four-to-nothing after two.

More in the third off a second homerun from Logan Anthony. This time a lead off solo shot gave the Lobos a five-to-nothing cushion through three.

Zack Estrada led off the fourth with a single and Noah Ochoa’s second double of the game plated Estrada. Jerreson Hernandez, running for Ochoa, would score on a a RBI single from Tanner Marrow and Levelland led seven-to-nothing through four.

More came in the fifth when back-to-back walks from Tristan VanZandt and Matt Martinez se up RBIs from Jorge Mendiaz and Zack Estrada and Levelland pushed the lead to nine-to-nothing after five.

Levelland got their final two runs in the sixth as Noah Ochoa rapped his third double of the game. After Logan Anthony was hit by a pitch, Zak Betancourt would rap a RBI double to right and Levelland would score a second run off a Matt Martinez ground ball to lead 11-to-nothing to the bottom of the sixth.

Seminole got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a triple from Earl Nuefeld and a RBI double from Austin Hernandez but Levelland wnet on for the six inning win 11-to-one.

The Lobos were effeicent scoring 11 runs on 13 hits with no errors and seven left. Seminole got one run on five hits with no errors and six left.

Zak Betancourt flat delt it shutting out the Indians over five frames and 82 pitches. He gave up three hits, all singles, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Straton Dobson picked up an inning of relief allowing one run on two hits.

The Indians rolled out three pitchers in the loss. Derek Ruiz took the start and the loss working three and two-thirds on seven runs, nine hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Ryan Stimmel worked two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. Austen Hernandez closed it working one and two-thirds allowing two runs on two hits and a walk.

The Seminole Indians are now oh-and-five on the season as their playoff future got considerably more bleak with the loss. The Indians travel to three-and-two Denver City on Tuesday night.

Levelland moves to three-and-two on the season and look to avenge an early loss to the two-and-three Brownfield Cubs on Tuesday.
