Rain Rain Went Away, Lobos Bash By Estacado on Thursday

loboloyaltyThe Levelland Lobos went to Lubbock Estacado on Tuesday and when the clouds let loose, Levelland led 3-to-2 to the bottom of the third. When the Lobos went back on Thursday they cut loose for a 21-to-five win over the Matadors to move to one-and-one in district play.

Levelland led Lubbock Estacado three-to-two on the restart but the Matadors got started on the right foot getting two in the bottom of the third to lead four-to-three after three.

That would be it for the Matadors.

An RBI squeeze bunt single from Zack Estrada pushed Tristan VanZandt across in the fourth to tie the game at four-to-four after four before the Lobos broke through with four singles and two walks in the fifth to plate three and lead seven-to-four after five.

Levelland scored again in the sixth and came complete apart in the seventh as the Lobos would send 17 to the plate score 13 runs on five hits, six walks and two hit batters sealing a 21-to-four lead for the Lobos after six-and-a-half.

Lubbock Estacado scored a run in the bottom of the seventh but Levelland went on for the easy win 21-to-five to move to one-and-one in district.

Levelland scored 21 runs on 17 hits with three errors and seven left. Lubbock Estacado got five runs on five hits with three errors and seven left.

The starters from Tuesday, Zac Betancourt and Johnny Gomez, didn’t figure in to the decision as neither returned to the mound on Thursday.

Lubbock Estacado pitched Johnny All Staff as six different pitchers threw on Thursday. All told Matador pitching gave up 21 runs with 18 earned on 17 hits, ten walks, three hit batters and five strikeouts.

Levelland’s Zak Betancourt started on Tuesday and allowed two unearned runs in two official innings. Those came on one hit, two walks and one strikeouts. Straton Dobson took the win with one run allowed on two innings on two hits. Jorge Mendiaz got in two shut out innings allowing a hit, a walk and striking out two. Tanner Marrow threw one inning to close it allowing one run on one hit with one strike out.

Lubbock Estacado opens district play at oh-and-two and travel to district leading two-and-oh Brownfield for Friday baseball.

Levelland moves to 11-and-12 on the season and one-and-one in district play. The Lobos host one-and-one Denver City Friday with Lobo Pregame Show starting at 11:30am and first pitch 12:00pm on KLVT AM1230 and www.klvtradio.com!
