South Plains Rodeo Travels to Sweetwater March 22-24 for Ranger College Rodeo

SPCRodeo2018LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams will return to the arena this weekend at the Ranger College Rodeo in Sweetwater March 22-24.

With six rodeos complete, the Lady Texans sit atop the Southwest Region standings with 1,381 points, followed by Tarleton State who sits in second with 979 points, while Eastern New Mexico, Weatherford College, and Texas Tech round out the top five. The Texans come into the weekend ranked sixth overall in the region with 935 points, as Tarleton State, Odessa, Weatherford College, Western Texas College, and Clarendon make up the top five spots to date.

The Lady Texans captured the women’s team title at the Odessa College Rodeo on Feb. 25, extending their lead in the region as sophomore Lariat Larner won the women’s all-around title with 160 points thanks to a pair of top-five finishes.

Sophomore Jenna Dallyn, who currently sits second in the region in goat tying with 495 points, racked up 155 points as she posted a time of 7.1 in the long round followed by a 6.9 in the finals of the goat tying event to capture the event title. Larner tallied 60 points in goat tying as she ran a 6.5 in the long round and a 9.9 in short round, placing fifth for the Lady Texans and currently ranks sixth in the region with 175 points.

Kashley Seitz added to the Lady Texans’ point total with 95 points in the breakaway roping event as she posted a 2.8 in the long round which she followed up with a 3.2 in the finals to earn a fourth place overall finish. Larner would earn her second top-five finish in breakaway roping, running a 2.5 in the long round and a 3.8 in the finals, racking up 100 points to place third overall, as she currently ranks 15th in the region with 100 points.

Sophomore Alex Odle will look to make her push to the top of the regional standings as she enters the weekend sitting in third place with 330 points. Odle trails only Madeline Dickens of Odessa College, who is first in the region with 500 points, and Sadye Simpson of Weatherford College who is second with 340 points.

The Texans rode their way to a sixth-place finish in Odessa, adding 180 points to their season total. South Plains’ Chet Boren and Hadley Cloward placed second in team roping as they ran a 5.9 in the long round and 20.7 in the short to finish with 130 points. Sophomore Zack Kirkpatrick teamed up with Texas Tech’s Kade Cotton in team roping as the duo ran a 7.2 in the long round and missed in the short round as Kirkpatrick tallied 50 points for South Plains.

Kirkpatrick and Boren will look to climb the leaderboards in steer wrestling, each ranked inside the top six in the region. Kirkpatrick is tied for fourth in the regional standings with 220 points, while Boren is sixth with 205 points. Boren also ranks inside the top 10 in team roping, currently tied for eighth with 130 points.
