Levelland Lobos Close Solid Season with Quarterfinal Loss to the #10 Seminole Indians

February 28, 2018

The 2017-18 Levelland Lobos after their 4A Region One Area Championship Win.

The Levelland Lobos fell to the #10 Seminole Indians last night 61-to-46 as the 2017-18 season comes to an end for the Levelland Lobos in the 4A Region One Quarterfinals and Levelland closed the season at 22-and-11 on the year.

Lobos got a good start on Tuesday night as Jacob Ramirez popped a pair of threes and Isaiah Salazar hit another to spur the Levelland Lobos to a 13-to-12 lead after the front eight minutes.

Seminole bounced back in the second.

While the Lobo offense struggled, Carter Johnson scored ten and Clayton Medlin added four and led the Indians to a 20-to-six second quarter and a 32-to-19 lead at the half.

Levelland battled back time and time again through the back half but despite getting back within eight points late in the game, Seminole would nine-of-ten from the free throw line in the fourth frame and add a last second layup to seal the 61-to-46 win.

Levelland got 17 from freshman Isaiah Salazar and 13 more from sophomore Jacob Ramirez. Reid O’Connor added nine while Kaleb Reyna scored three and Joel White added two in the loss.

Carter Johnson led the way for Seminole with 23 while Reese Moore scored 11 and Jalen Brattain and Clayton Medlin added ten each for the Indians.

Levelland shot fairly well hitting 18-of-42 from the field at 43% and six-of-17 from behind the three point arch at 35%. Seminole hit on 21-of-49 from the floor at 43% but made a living on offensive rebounds collecting 14 boards that led to 12 second chance points.

Seminole also won the free throw line hitting on 11-of-14 with nine of those 11 coming in the fourth quarter. Levelland got a four-of-nine from the stripe.

The Levelland Lobos replaced nearly and entire roster from 2016-17 to 2017-18 but despite a host of new faces, the Levelland Lobos managed a 22-and-11 season that included a third place finish in a very good district and two rounds of playoff wins.

The Lobos say goodbye to seniors Joel White, and Keyshawn Joyce while returning ten off of the varsity roster for 2018-19.

Congratulations to Coach Jeff Bontrager, his coaches and the Levelland Lobos on a great season.
