Lobos Drop Contest to Snyder, Move to Three-and-Three in 2018

loboloyaltyThe Levelland Lobos got a fair start from senior Jorge Mendiaz but four errors and a seven run rally from Snyder led to a 11-to-seven run loss for the Lobos and the Lobos slip to three-and-three on the season.

Snyder got an early run in the first when Jake Chavez reached on an error and scored on a RBI double from Lance Davis to jump out to a one-to-nothing lead.

The Lobos answered with a two run second when Angel Pena reached on a hit by pitch and Noah Ochoa followed with a single to left. Tanner Marrow would follow with an infield single and with the bases load, Zak Betancourt would be hit by a pitch driving in Pena. A second run scored when Jorge Mendiaz would be hit by a pitch. ‘

After one, the Lobos were in front two-to-one.

Snyder got three singles in the second to plate another run and retie the game at two all.

Levelland rallied for three more in the second behind a pair of singles from Zack Estrada and Angel Pena. Both would score on a Snyder throwing error and another Snyder error would score a third run to put Levelland in front five-to-one after two.

The Lobos stretched the lead to six-to-two on a single from Zack Estrada and a double from Angel Pena and led six-to-two after four innings.

Snyder got two back in the fifth on two singles and two Levelland errors to narrow the lead to Levelland 6, Snyder 4 after five.

Then the Tigers broke through.

Snyder collected four hits, two walks, a hit batter and a fourth Levelland error. It led Snyder to a seven runs in the sixth and Snyder led 11-to-six to the bottom of the sixth.

Levelland got one back in the sixth on a third Zack Estrada hit and a RBI single from Noah Ochoa but that is where the rally ended and Levelland fell to Snyder 11-to-seven in six innings.

Snyder collected 11 runs on 11 hits with two errors and eight left while Levelland scored seven runs on eight hits with four errors and left six.

Jake Chavez took the win for the Tigers working five and two-thirds. He would give up seven runs with four earned on eight hits, one walk, three hit batters and seven strike outs. Ryan Rodriguez worked to one batter in relief recording a strike out on seven pitches.

Jorge Mendiaz took the start but didn’t figure into the decision. He would work four innings on 98 pitches while allowing four runs with two earned. He allowed seven hits with two walks and six strike outs. Justin Palomin took the loss working one-and-a-third allowing seven runs with two earned. Those came on four hits, two walks, one hit batter and two strike outs. Jerrsson Hernandez worked the final out on a five pitches.

The Levelland Lobos slip to three-and-three over all and went three-and-two in tournament play over the weekend.

The Lobos get back into action on Tuesday when they host Idalou and then host the Levelland Line Drive Classic Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
