Loboettes Fall to Abilene Wylie in 4A Regional Semi-Finals, Conclude Season 33-and-Three

Loboettes201718It was a rough night in the turnover category that concluded another great season of Loboette Basketball as #3 Levelland fell to #11 Abilene Wylie on Friday night 51-to-48 in the 4A Region One Semi-Finals and ending the season at 33-and-three on the year.

Abilene Wylie jumped out to a 14-to-11 lead after one quarter behind two threes from Lauren Fulenwider and eight points from Mary Lovelace. Levelland got six in the front quarter from Makayla Escue along with two each from Miranda Villegas and Paige Royal.

Levelland battled back in the second.

Paige Royal grabbed five while Makayla Escue scored four more and led Levelland to a 15 point second quarter while the Loboettes held Abilene Wylie to just 10 and led 26-to-24 at half.

Abilene Wylie won the third 13-to-12 but Levelland clung to a 38-to-37 lead after three.

Free throws, and a few well timed threes decided the fourth.

The Lady Bulldogs would get 14 in the final frame behind a three-for-seven effort from behind the three point line and a five-of-seven effort from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Levelland would go two-for-four from the stripe and oh-of-two from behind the arch as the Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs took the fourth 14-to-10 and the game 51-to-48.

Levelland got 16 from Junior MaKayla Escue to lead the way while Natalie Velardez scored 11 and Paige Royal added nine. Miranda Villegas chipped in eight and Allie Latham aded four off the bench.

Mary Lovelace led Wylie with 15 while Abey Henson and Lauren Fulewider scored 12 each in the win.

The Lady Bulldogs connected on nine-of-29 from the behind the three point arch at just 31% but Levelland went oh-of-four from deep. The Lady Bulldogs also won the free throw line hitting 10-of-14 while the Loboettes went eight-of-13 and coughed up 20 turnovers compared to Abilene Wylie’s 13.

The Levelland Loboettes close the season with an outstanding 33-and-three mark along with a co-district championship and three rounds of playoff wins.

As the 2017-2018 season closes, the Loboettes say good bye to seniors Paige Royal, Jacee Hill, Megan Latham and M’Kenzi Cambell.
