Can’t Spell Levelland With Out the D, #3 Levelland Drums Seminole 56-24 to Move to Regional Semi-Finals

LoboettesRegionaSemiThe old adage is you can’t win if you can’t score. The #3 Levelland Loboettes’ denfense held the Seminole Maidens to just 24 points and just 14 in the final three quarters ina 56-to-24 win Tuesday night to advance Levelland to 33-and-two on the year and into the 4A Region One Semi-Finals.

It was a good first quarter as the Maidens got threes from Taylor Harvey and Madison Perry to tally a ten point eight minutes. Levelland countered with 10 first quarter points from Natalie Velardez. That led Levelland to a 17-to-ten lead after one.

And that was that.

Levelland would out score Seminole 12-to-two in the second for a 29-to-12 lead at half and it go worse from there.

Seminole tried to press their way back into the game and despite the effort in the back half the Loboettes out scored the Maidens 17-to-five in the third and ten-to-seven in the fourth and roll on for the 56-to-24 win.

Natalie Velardez flat went off as she hit for 20 in the game including a six-of-seven from the free throw line. Miranda Villegas added 14 while Paige Royal scored seven and Allie Latham added five off the bench. MaKayla Escue had four, Jaycee Hill hit for three, Kiahra Graves had two and Madi Ruiz added one in the win.

No Maiden found double figures and only four scored. Madison Perry led the way with eight points on the back of two threes while Bretlei Dominguez added seven in the loss.

The Levelland defense just flat shut down the Maidens.

Seminole shot 10-of-51 from the floor at 20% and just three-of-14 from behind the arch at 21% while Levelland blocked nine shots and forced the Maidens into 17 turnovers. Those turnovers led to 18 points for the Loboettes.

Levelland shot 22-of-52 from the floor at 42% while collecting 12 offensive rebounds that led to 14 put back points.

Levelland hit 11-of-15 from the free throw line at 73% while Seminole shot just one-of-three from the stripe with all three attempts coming in the third quarter.

Seminole, despite a very good playoff run as the four team out of the district, ends the season at 21-and-13 on the year while the #3 Levelland Loboettes improve to 33-and-two on the year.

The win advances the Levelland Loboettes into the 4A Region One Semi-Finals to face the #11 Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs. They come in at 27-and-six on the year.

The Loboettes play Friday night at 8:30pm at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock.
