November 12, 2017

LoboLoyaltyThe #6 Levelland Loboettes opened 2017-18 on the right foot as Miranda Villegas tossed in 19 and Paige Royal and Natalie Velardez scored ten each in a 55-to-39 win at Frenship on Saturday.

Miranda Villegas made her presence felt early as the junior standout hit for 11 in the front quarter. Her 11 led to 15 points for the Loboettes while they allowed just eight for the Lady Tigers and let by seven after one frame.

The love started spreading around in the second as Paige Royal hit for six, Natalie Velardez hit a pair of field goals and Makayla Escue added four free throws in 17 point second quarter. Frenship did manage their eight best minutes of the game scoring 12 behind three pointers from Ashlyn Caddel, Maci Maddox and Addison Wilson but Levelland led 32-to-20 at the break.

The Frenship defense stiffened through the third holding the Loboettes to just one field goal and six free throws. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers got seven from Ashlyn Caddel and narrowed the gap to Levelland 40, Frenship 31 after three.

That would be as close as it would get.

Levelland would hit eight-of-ten from the free throw line in the final eight minutes and outscored Frenship 15-to-eight down the stretch to go on for the 55-to-39 win.

Miranda Villegas finished with 19 with a six-for-six effort from the free throw line while Paige Royal and Natalie Velardez knocked down 10 each in the win. MaKayla Escue added eight, on an eight-of-eight effort from the charity stripe, while Madi Ruiz added five and Allie Latham tossed in three off the bench.

Frenship was led by Ashlyn Caddel as she tossed in ten with two three pointers but she was the only Lady Tiger in double figures. Cassandra Awatt finished with eight while Addison Wilson scored seven and Ashton Beeles added five. Abre Godfrey scored four, Maci Maddox took three and Haleigh Elliot scored two in the loss.

Levelland shot the ball well all day hitting on 14-of-30 from the floor at 47% from the floor and 23-for-27 from the free throw line at 85%.

Meanwhile the Lady Tigers tired to win from behind the arch as they cast up 29 three point attempts in the loss compared to just 17 attempts from inside the line. All told they connected on ten field goals and shot just 22% from the floor while hitting 14-of-17 from the free throw line.

Frenship drops to one-and-one on the season and hosts Claude on Tuesday night.
