Sundown and Levelland Dominate at Lamesa’s Romp in the Park

It’s been a bit of a never ending story line. Sundown and Levelland continued to dominate the medals on Saturday as the two squads swept the team varsity team standings at the Romp in the Park hosted by Lamesa ISD over the weekend.

Sundown put six Roughettes in the top 15 while taking the team gold at just 20 points.

While Marika Perlmutter from Lubbock Christian won the individual gold at 12:40.41, Rebecca Kenley and Alyzah McGlasson from Sundown went second and third respectively at 12:42.53 and 12:54.50. Coupled with a sixth place from Ashlyn Peralta, seventh from Sarah Locklin, ninth from Alexa Rodriguez and 12th from Karigen Garza, the Roughettes ran away with first place.

Levelland’s Loboettes took 75 points out distancing third place Seminole by over 25 points.

Sydnei Orozco ran 14th at 13:36.15 while Isabel Martinez ran 15th and Natalie Velardez turned in a 23rd.

On the boys side of the card Steven Quintanilla won the meet at 16:52.15 and led Sundown to the team win as the Roughnecks finished with 41 points.

Jon Torrez ran fourth at 17:28.28 while Justin Torrez ran 11th.

Levelland tallied second place at 82 points.

Jose Manzanares ran sixth at 17:47.03 while Rodrigo Ornelas took seventh and Granados Fernando ran 13th.

Manuel Acosta from Morton turned in at 10th place.

The Lobos and Lobettes return to action on Thursday at their district meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Sundown will run their district meet on Saturday at Yoakum County Park hosted by Plains ISD.
