14 Kills for Escue Lead the Loboettes by Lubbock High

Escue2017The Levelland Loboettes took to the road on Tuesday night and Junior Makayla Escue rattled off 14 kills as Levelland got by the Lubbock High Lady Westeners 29-27, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-20. The win moves Levelland to 14-and-12 on the year with two to play before district opens.

Lubbock High led most of the way through game one and went to game point at 24-to-21 but Levelland outscored the Lady Westerners eight-to-three down the stretch and won game one 29-to-27.

Levelland led deep into game two but Lubbock High took a 18-to-17 lead late in the frame and moved on for the 25-to-21 win in the second.

Levelland built a six point lead midway through the third and held off a surging Lady Westerner squad for a 25-to-19 win.

Game four, much the same as game two. Levelland built a four point lead and while they didn’t surrender the lead, they staved off four ties to win game four 25-20 and the match 29-27, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-20.

Levelland out killed a talented Lady Westerner squad 39-to-38 and won the block column seven-to-two.

Levelland hung up six aces while faulting five times. Lubbock High aced five times and faulted 11 times.

Makayla Escue tallied 14 kills and five blocks in the contest while Paige Royal knocked down nine kills and Kelsie Davis put up a solid contest with six kills. M’Kenzi Campbell added five kills and a block while Avery Read grabbed three kills and Kazzi Spears added a kill and a block.

Megan Latham led the service column with 10 points while going 16-for-17 from behind the line. Paige Royal and Mia Rendon picked up nine points each and both aced twice in the win.

Brianna Warren led the way for Lubbock High as she blasted 16 kills. Reagan Armstrong tallied 12 kills and two blocks while Mya Garcia and Gabrielle Flores served for seven points each.

Levelland moves to 14-and-12 on the year with two big games left before opening district play in just over a week.

The Loboettes travel to Shallowater on Saturday and host Big Spring on Tuesday before opening district play on Saturday the 23rd at Lubbock Estacado.

The Loboettes trip to Shallowater starts with Freshman and Junior Varsity at 11:00am and Varsity at 12:00pm.
